What’s on my bucket list….

I got together with a group of friends recently, and we shared 10 items on our bucket list. I thought I’d share my items with you. These in are no particular order.

1. See Paris. It’s a beautiful city. I’ve been to Paris, but I didn’t get a chance to explore Paris. My husband and I were on a cruise, and we had one day to see Paris, so we didn’t have a chance to do more than drive/walk around. I would like to go back for an extended period and really see the city.

2. Tour the United Kingdom. I want to see England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland (and Ireland).  I want to see the palaces, Big Ben, the countryside. I’ve been to Dover, England on a cruise, that that doesn’t count.

3. Visit Australia. I think there are a lot of amazing, unusual things to see.

4. Learn to fly a kite. This was something I never learned to do as a kid (my mom tried to teach me, but she couldn’t do it).

5. Pet and hold a squirrel. I love squirrels. In Japan, they have “squirrel gardens,” basically squirrel petting zoos. I think that would be the place to do it, then I could see Japan too!

6. Write a “grand romance.” In my mind, this would be an “epic” story that would take readers on an emotional journey that they’ll never forget. I don’t know quite what form it will take, but hopefully someday, this will come to fruition…

7. See all 50 states of the United States. I live in an amazing country, and I want to see it.  So far, I’ve been to 39 states, although many of them I’ve just passed through on the way to somewhere else, so I need to go back and see more of the key sites. The only ones I haven’t been to are: Wisconsin, Mississippi, North Dakota, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Maine, Alabama, Delaware, Vermont, North Carolina and Maryland.

8. Go to Hong Kong. I fell in love with the Orient when I went to China. I’ve also been to Thailand. Hong Kong looks amazing.

9. See Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Maybe. Frankly, I’m afraid of going anywhere in the Middle East–even just getting there concerns me (will my plane be blown up on the way?). However, I saw Dubai on an episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and Dubai looked like something out of a science fiction novel. I could easily imagine spaceships zipping among the buildings. It looks so otherworldly, I want to see it.

10. Experience a luxury vacation. Paris, Hong Kong, Dubai, etc. might seem like luxury, but in this instance, I’m not referring to the destination, but to the manner, the accommodations. For once in my middle class life, I’d like to experience what it’s like to be rich. I would like to take an absolute top-of-the-line luxury vacation. The kind where you get the penthouse suite at the most expensive hotel. Where rooms are $10K+ night. The kind of luxury that blows your socks off. For this I’m going to need to win the lottery or make a billionaire friend who wants to treat me for my birthday. Everything on my bucket list is doable, except probably this item.

Prize Drawing! What’s on your bucket list?

You’ll notice most of my bucket list items involve travel. Share an item from your bucket list, and you could travel to a new world! I’ll pick one lucky person to win her/his choice of one of my Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romances. No physical travel, but it will take you to an exotic, alien locale…

If you don’t want to enter the drawing, please share your item anyway–I’d love to hear it. If you do want to enter drawing, tell me which book you’d like to win in addition to sharing your bucket list item. Be sure to leave your email address either in the comment sign-in or in the comments so you can be contacted if you win. (Hint: I won’t tell you which book to pick, but you can get Stranded with the Cyborg for free anyway, so maybe choose a different one…)

Winner will be announced on Friday, June 2!

    Visit Mars
(I’d like to win _Mated with the Cyborg _)

  2. Lola says:

Oh great list! I have visited Paris for a few days and am not in a hurt to return as it’s not really my type fo city, but the UK on the other hand I would love to visit again. I went there for a vacation once and it’s such a beautiful country. We visited a few places in Scotland, lake district and somewhere lower in the UK, but I would love to return one day and see more. There are quite some countries I would love to visit like Norway, Finland and the US.

If I win I would probably go for the second cyborg book as I already have the first one. And after reading Alien mate I am hoping to start this series soon too :).

  3. Rhonda Butterbaugh says:

I”m a Civil War buff so one thing on my bucket list would be to visit the South and all the Civil War sites. Gettysburg and any other place that battles were fought. Next would be to visit England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, and just lots of places in the USA and other parts of the world. I haven’t traveled very much in my life so there are tons of places I would love to explore.

    • Cara Bristol says:

Traveling within the US would be a great place to start. Traveling is such a broadening experience.

  4. Lisa Medley says:

My ultimate bucket list item is also probably my FINAL BUCKET LIST ITEM. I want to live (well) until age 100 and see my photo on the Today show Smucker’s jar. Jenna Bush Hager may have to read my bio for me (she’s the youngest host on the show, I think). That’s my plan, and I’m sticking to it. Also, I already own all of your books. Write faster, lol . ❤️❤️

  5. Great list! These are all things I wanted to do when I was younger. Now, I find a quiet day at home is the ultimate luxury! My bucket list is the same as your number six: write an epic. I’d love to read Trapped with the Cyborg.

  6. Excellent list! Travel really is so important and, as you said, not just passing through but being able to explore an area.

I’d like to spend more time in the Dakotas, MT. WY, ID and then on up into Canada as well.

My bucket list item would be to get in shape and be able to run some distance…like a mile. No reason I can’t start working on that today. Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂

    • Cara Bristol says:

Getting in shape is always a good goal!

If you do go to Idaho, be sure to visit Coeur d’Alene. I used to live there. It’s beautiful.

  7. SuzyFren says:

    Visit Australia and New Zealand
    Zip line
    Hang glide
    Parasailing
    See a live volcano
    Go on a treasure hunt
    Fly into space

    • Cara Bristol says:

Good list! Going into space would be the ultimate adventure. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be affordable enough in my lifetime for the average person to do. I have been zip lining and parasailing. I think hang gliding would scary!

  8. Laurel Lasky says:

Just for fun as I have all your books. A two week cruise with all the perks, most expensive suite an electric scooter for getting about and eating great food without gaining weight, lol

  9. Melissa Sheffield says:

Just discovered you. I just finished reading Alien Mate and I’m looking forward to other books in this series hopefully. I went to South Korea last year and loved it! I’m in love with East Asia so I would definitely like to see Hong Kong. I’m still stuck on Korea and saving to go back. I also want to see Thailand and Dubai sound interesting. Thanks for sharing your talents as well as your hopes.

    • Cara Bristol says:

Thank you for visiting, Melissa! Glad you enjoyed Alien Mate. Hope you’ll try my Cy-Ops cyborg series. I think South Korea would be fun to visit. Asia is so different. It feels like another world.

  10. Tracy Johnson says:

I want to go to Ireland and I am working toward my goal!

  11. I can heartily recommend kite flying, and the UK. Especially together on the edge of Rhossili down on the end of the Gower.

  12. Terri O'Connell says:

I’d love to explore space (a girl can dream right). But here on Earth it would be a toss up between Ireland (where my relatives are) or Greece. I’d like book three please if I win.

  13. ML says:

I will actually get to check an item off the bucket list later this year, when I go to Australia for the first time! But a true bucket list item would be to trace my family roots in Slovakia and Ukraine. [And I’d wanted Trapped With the Cyborg if I get that lucky. :-)]

  14. Tricia says:

I would love to visit Santorini, Greece, go back to the Highlands of Scotland, Egypt, and the Holy Land….

    • Cara Bristol says:

I’ve been to Santorini and Egypt. Santorini is beautiful. Egypt was interesting. The pyramids were amazing.

  15. Denmark is where my son and his wife live. What a kick to go there. Love your books and your energy, Cara. I always feel you’re looking after this aged woman.

    • Cara Bristol says:

Thank you, Charmaine. You’re doing well yourself. I love what I do. Being an author is my dream job. If I wasn’t already doing it, it would be on my bucket list.

  16. Kate says:

My bucket list item: To run, swim, and bike my way through a triathelon.
    (Mated with the Cyborg)
