Jessica Subject shows off her redesigned office #AuthorsInSpace #PetsInSpace #scifirom

By Jessica Subject

My office was redesigned for me by my husband a couple years ago. It wasn’t an inviting space before, but now its walls are a pale blue and decorated with a couple of my framed covers. One wall consists of a book shelf, and I have a couple other small shelves, but it still doesn’t seem to be enough space to fit all of my books.

I used to use a large wooden desk that has been in my family since I was a child. But when I started having problems with my wrist and elbow, it was no longer suitable. We had another corner desk, and I was able to add a pullout drawer to it which fit my new ergonomic keyboard. I have all of my reference books within reach, and usually have company the company of my Great Pyrenees/Retriever lying behind me. I also have some exercise equipment for when I need a break.

My office is cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. And if I need more warmth, I have the blanket that my mother-on-law crocheted. But, when the kids are off school, I don’t spend much time in there. You see, I have to share my office, and when my son is in there with me, he talks a lot, and I don’t get any work done. I’m looking forward to September, when I’ll be back in that room full-time to write more stories.
