Although I’ve got several spaces in the house that I use for writing, my favorite writing spot occupies the same territory that the rest of the family uses for music and books! I always feel extra inspired when I’m writing between a bass violin and a hundred-year old piano. (Though I often wonder whether my laptop feels self-conscious…)
You can probably see the little carved wolf to the right of my laptop. He came from a recent trip to the Pocono Indian Museum. On the left is a miniature reproduction of Rodin’s sculpture, The Kiss. I love sculpture and especially Rodin. The Kiss never fails to leave me feeling the romance!
Our house is an old Victorian. It’s full of nooks and crannies and extra doors and odd-shaped windows, so we have to be creative to make it work. Mr. Black built me this wall of bookshelves soon after we bought the house. As you can see, it is overflowing and two rows deep in some places. (Time for more shelves, Mr. Black!) Although I’m a big fan of eBooks I still love my paperbacks and hardcovers. Mr. Black likes to tease that one day I will come home and all my paper books will be gone with nothing in their place but my kindle and iPad all alone on the middle shelf!
Always at my feet is my self-proclaimed assistant, Sookie (named after the True Blood heroine). She looks very dignified in this picture, but in real life she’s a goofball, constantly leaping around and barking at squirrels out the window, or even just the reflection of her own tags against the wall. Sookie is dead serious about her true vocation though, which is reminding me when it’s time to get away from the computer and take a walk. (Or time to terrify the mail man with wild barking – she’s easy about the what, as long as she gets me out of the chair!) Sookie was an inspiration for the German Shepherds I wrote about in Lobo, though the dogs in the K-9 training program are much more disciplined.
Thanks for visiting my writing lair!

Tasha Black is the author of Lobo
Her life has gone to the dogs… literally.
After a bad break-up with a long-term boyfriend Veronica can finally devote herself fully to training search and rescue dogs for the local police department. The only problem is that she has to train the humans too, and they’re not as much fun as the K-9 officers.
Lobo has arrived on Earth with nothing but the brand-new human body he inhabits and the mission to find a mate and annihilate her with pleasure until she accepts him. Although nearly every Earth female he meets seems most eager to get to know him better, Lobo finds himself drawn only to Veronica. And she refuses to acknowledge their mutual attraction. The only way to her heart is through the dogs.
When one of the K-9s is in trouble, it’s up to Veronica to help him but there’s only one problem – dogs can’t talk. And while the rest of the department is ready to give up on the canine, Lobo offers to help solve the mystery and save Veronica’s best friend.
Can Veronica accept Lobo’s help while hanging onto her feelings? Or will the sexy alien bring her heart to heel?
