By Vivien Jackson
Heya. Thanks, Cara, for letting me stop by and picspam your snazzy blog! I was just reading through some of the other Writers in Space posts and whoa, y’all have this thing figured out. I mean, you have actual writing spaces that scream “here is where the magic happens!” Me, um, not so much.
Truth is, I write wherever my computer is. And since I typically write on a laptop, my “office” can be pretty much anywhere. The bulk of Perfect Gravity happened in a coffee shop here in Austin called Genuine Joe’s. Amazing latte, kooky sense of humor, fantastic neo-SalvationArmy décor. Sometimes the stuffed unicorn hangs out and watches over my shoulder.
She’s super judgy, as you can tell. Up by the coffee counter, they employees have taped up a bunch of comics and memes. My fave:
Of course, the coffee itself is the superstar.
Deadlines rode me pretty hard last year, which meant I wrote straight through a few holidays, so for a couple of weeks in June while the rest of my family was snorkeling and having a blast on the Playa del Carmen, I wrote here.
Not that I’m complaining.
When I’m at home and writing, there’s an upstairs desk built especially for super-short-person me (note the complete set of Lord of the Rings above and the badass Crusader standee).
Fandom posters complete the look.
Or sometimes I just kick my feet up on the back porch, let the tiny dogs yap their little heads off, and write in the wild.
Basically, any place and every place is my office, ‘cause the made-up world is always way more important.
