On this day, my husband and I are spending the day alone, skipping the usual feast. I have not decided whether we’ll go out to eat or if we’ll have some leftover lasagna I froze in preparation for this day.
We’re in the middle of moving. Last year we sold our home in Washington state and — the day AFTER Thanksgiving — moved to the Midwest, half way across the United States, intending to build our dream home. In one year’s time, we hired an architect, drafted a house plan, hired a builder and built a house. It was officially finished YESTERDAY.
Today, on Thanksgiving, we are wrapping up the packing and tomorrow — again, the day after Thanksgiving — we’ll move. This time, we estimate it will take only hours to move our stuff — not four and half days on the road like it did before.
I do plan to cook a turkey dinner — but in a few weeks.
I am thankful for my husband, my health, my new beautiful home, my wonderful writing career, for living in a beautiful area, for always having enough to eat and never having known hunger, for comfort, for freedom, for living in a country where we can disagree with another, for friendship and so many other things.
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!
Please join me tomorrow for the Black Friday Hop. I’ll have a drawing for an Amazon gift certificate to kick off the shopping season!
