“Just Say Yes to Writing Sex”

Psst! I’m going to spill my trade secrets. Saturday, March 2, I will speak to the Ozarks Romance Authors in Springfield, MO about how to write erotic romance. I’m calling my presentation, “Just say yes to writing sex.” This is the outline of what I plan to cover:

  1. The continuum paradox: what romance and porn have in common.
  2. The Road to Perdition – how I became a “smut” writer.
  3. Why have sex at all?
  4. Three things that should be in every sex scene.
  5. Three MORE things that should be in every sex scene.
  6. What’s that I smell? Use of the five senses.
  7. Is it real or is it fantasy?
  8. Kick it up with kink.
  9. Polyamory, the more the merrier.
  10. But my mama will read this!
  11. Osculating and fucking, circumventing our English language.

Here’s the bio I submitted to the organization:

After reading a sex scene in her mainstream novel, Cara Bristol’s husband told her, “You missed your calling. You should be writing screw books.”  Many years and many unpublished manuscripts later, she sat down at the computer to just to play and wrote her first erotic romance.

“I don’t know where you get that stuff,” said her husband after reading the story. “You didn’t get it from me.”

She sold that first erotic romance to the very first publisher she submitted to. That was in 2009. She now has eight books published, and two more under contract. She is the author of the Rod and Cane Society domestic discipline erotic romance series about a secret organization of men who spank their wives to maintain discipline in the home. Its titles include Unexpected Consequences, False Pretenses, and Body Politics .

Her stand alones titles are Reckless in Moonlight, A Scent of Longing. Intimate Submission, and Secret Desires, the latter two also are included in the anthology Spanked! Besides writing domestic discipline, Cara also pens contemporary and paranormal erotic romance. Her publishers include Loose Id, Decadent Publishing and Black Velvet Seductions.

A recent transplant to Missouri, she has one husband, two grown stepkids, and two cats. She enjoys reading, watching reality TV shows and traveling.
