I am entering the eye of the hurricane: a period of relative calm at the center of a storm. The year began in a whirl when I raced to write from scratch three stories for two publishers with short deadlines. In recent weeks, I have had to drop everything but writing to finish on time. I submitted the last the manuscript on Saturday and now have some breathing space to catch my breath before I prepare for the tail end of the storm that will hit in May…
…when all three stories are published. When a book comes out, there’s a furious flurry of activity that occurs: blogging, guest blogging, tweeting, requesting reviews. Just ensuring that all the links and blurbs are up to date is a big task. Multiply that by three, and it’s crazy-making.
When I decided writing erotic romance would be my career, I swore I would not: a) have multiple first-draft writing projects occurring simultaneously b) write to a “hard” deadline and c) have multiple books release at the same time.
Due to a confluence of factors – some of which were out of my control – I broke all three rules this year.
May is going to be C-R-A-Z-Y. In addition to the book releases, I will attend the Romantic Times Book Lover’s Convention in Kansas City May 1-4. I signed up before I learned I would have three books releasing. And on the personal front, I had agreed to help my mother move from Washington state to the Midwest where I live. And guess what…she wants to do that in May/June!
But as problems go, having three books release at the same time is a good problem to have. Here’s what’s coming down the pike:
With or Without Him, a domestic discipline short story
Release Date: May 15
Publisher: LazyDay Publishing
Important details: With or Without Him is in the anthology Coming to Terms, which features seven stories by seven authors: myself, Jade Cary, Anastasia Vitsky, Sue Lyndon, Renee Rose, Celeste Jones and Alta Hensley.
A few more deets: This is a light, humorous story
After two kids, three moves, and the normal ups and downs of a twenty-year domestic discipline marriage, Janelle wants to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a luxury vacation. But despite subtle hints like leaving a copy of the Cabana Resort brochure with the Couples’ Getaway Package circled in red on her husband’s golf magazine, Brent misses all the clues. Worse, he has a business trip on their anniversary! Though her bottom might pay for it later, Janelle decides to take her luxury vacation anyway. Leaving a note and a casserole, she flies off to the resort. She’s going to celebrate, with or without him.
If anything proves that he’s slacked off on his duties as head of household, this stunt of Janelle’s does. Brent had booked the Diamond Package at the Cabana Resort to surprise her and planned to present her with the tickets when she took him to airport for his “business trip.” She’s ruined the surprise, but he’s not going to let her ruin their anniversary. It’s time to take his errant wife in hand and get their marriage back on track.
Disciplinary Measures, A Rod and Cane Society short story
Release Date: May 21
Publisher: Loose Id
Important Details: I wrote Disciplinary Measures for Loose Id’s “Spring Fling” – short stories featuring characters from authors’ existing books. The stories will be FREE on the Loose Id site. Although the characters are new in Disciplinary Measures, the story is based on the Rod and Cane Society series of which there are three previous books: Unexpected Consequences, False Pretenses and Body Politics.
A few more deets: Disciplinary Measures is a 15K word short story. Of all the Rod and Cane stories, it edges closest to BDSM and is the hottest (IMHO). Hold the book away from your face when you read it so your hair doesn’t catch fire!
Married for three years, Linc Ellison has reached his wit’s end. His wife’s overspending threatens to drive them into the poorhouse. But more than that, he doesn’t feel he can trust Regina because of her string of broken promises. When he learns about the Rod and Cane Society, a secret organization of men who spank their wives, he decides to implement some disciplinary measures to save his marriage.
Sure Regina shops a lot. And she’s broken some promises. But she’s trying to do better. What hurts most is that Linc no longer trusts her. So she consents to try domestic discipline.
Neither is prepared for the ripple effect the disciplinary measures will have on their love life.
Trivia for Rod and Cane fans: Regina Ellison is Liz Davenport’s assistant at the law firm.
“Destiny’s Chance,” a paranormal novella with erotic spanking
Release Date: Mid-May (I have a date, but it’s subject to change)
Important details: The title WILL change; I’ve given my publisher several options. It’s a paranormal, but the characters are all human. It’s paranormal because the story involves reincarnation and some psychic phenomenon.
Destiny Grable can’t help that she’s fallen in love Chance Everett, her best friend’s boyfriend, but she’s never, ever acted on her feelings — until she and Zoe are in a car accident, her friend is killed, and she’s reincarnated in Zoe’s body. Though she never wanted him this way, she hopes she might have a chance after all…
In another time, another place, Chance might have been attracted to Destiny Grable, but he’s a one-woman-at-a-time man, and he and Zoe were an item. Were – until they split up by mutual agreement. But now she’s been injured in an accident in which Destiny was killed and his conscience forces him take Zoe in. But as soon as she recovers, they’ll part ways again…
Sometimes it takes an act of fate to bring destiny and chance together and prove that what one believes might be more important than what one sees.
