Recommended Reads: Books I read and loved in August….

I love to read, but until recently I hadn’t been reading very much. Commitments, my own writing, and the nature of certain books I had chosen to read had slowed me down. Have you ever gotten hung up on a book that seemed to go on forever? Yeah, I’ve had a few of those. But not the stories listed here — these are good, fast reads. I read twice as many books in August, compared to previous months.

Delivering Kadlin (historical spanking romance) by Gabrielle Holly – Young woman  must be delivered to the jarl to settle her uncle’s gambling debts. Only the Viking delivering her decides to keep her.

2K to 10K: How to Write Faster, Write Better, and Write More of What You Love (nonfiction, writing how-to) by Rachel Aaron – Great tips for plotters and pansers on how to write faster, plot and edit. A blog about how the book helped me.

Hexed and Vexed (paranormal) by Rebecca Royce – A young witch can’t understand why her boyfriend of 10 years would suddenly fall in love with her sister.

Lady Katherine’s Comeuppance (Regency historical spanking romance) by Celeste Jones – A young widowed dowager finds herself in the uncomfortable position of being forced to marry a boorish American earl to maintain her lifestyle.

Fearful Cravings (BDSM) by Tessa Kealey – a vanilla girl is introduced to BDSM by her hot sexy neighbor who also happens to be a client at the advertising agency where she works. A seductive read!

Claiming Their Maiden (fantasy domestic discipline) by Sue Lyndon – A fairy tale like story about a woman claimed by two brothers. Menage!

Captive’s Desire (sci-fi domestic discipline) by Natasha Knight – A fighter-pilot from a domed city is captured by the enemy.

A Taste of Candy (erotic short story) by Shoshanna Evers – She’s never had a orgasm with a man — until she wins a date with sexy rock star.

Breaking His Rules (spanking romance short story) by Sue Lyndon – When a woman’s boss learns of her spanking fantasies, he decides to make them come true.

Recommended Reads is a regular feature that usually runs early in the month.

I’m liking the sound of many of these! Thanks Cara!

    • Cara Bristol says:

Thanks, Louisa. One thing I meant to add, but forgot, is that the taglines for the books are my descriptions of what they are about, not their authors’ or their publishers.

  2. You read a wide variety of books. Thanks for the recommendations. Sometimes all the good books out there seem overwhelming.

Maybe we need designated reading days like we had in college, though I never really read on those days. 🙂

Thanks for the mention, Cara! I’ve been going for the fast reads lately too….it makes me feel better about getting through my t0-read list, and there’s just so many good books out there I feel frustrated that I can’t get to them all!

    • Cara Bristol says:

I know. I have so many author friends I want to read, plus the novels/novellas in my genre(s), plus the ones that just looking interesting. When I get blogged down in a long book I think, damn, I could have read three other authors in the time it’s taking me to finish this one. I don’t have the patience any more to wait for a book to get interesting. My DNF list is growing.

  4. Lisa Medley says:

Dear God! How do you have time to read? You are a MACHINE! So jealous… 🙂

    • Cara Bristol says:

I don’t have a full-time job outside of writing like you do. Nor do I have a child at home. And…most of these books are novellas. I’m not a machine; I’m more like a abacus. LOL.
