This month my husband and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary. We’ve been together for a total of 28 years.
Also this month, I learned he loves banana pudding. After 28 years, how could I not have known this?
I know he loves mashed potatoes and gravy, Italian cream cake, cookies and milk, and lemon meringue pie (Yeah, he has a sweet tooth; I know that, too), and that he likes banana cream pie, but I never knew he really, really likes banana pudding. (Of course, if he likes the pie, it makes sense he’d like pudding).
I guess it’s always possible to be surprised by someone you think you know well. Although we never lived together before we got married, we dated for five years and spent a lot of time together. If we weren’t at work, we were together. I didn’t think there wasn’t anything we hadn’t discussed, and certainly we’d reached agreement on big issues before we got married.
But surprise! We would both agree now that the first six months of our marriage were tough.Tough as in, we were both thinking, “Boy, this was a big mistake.” We went from never fighting to fighting almost all the time over the smallest, stupidest stuff. But we hung in there, worked out our differences, and made it work.
The point is even though you can think you know somebody well, you still can be surprised.
Such is the case with Destiny Grable and Chance Everett, the hero and heroine of Destiny’s Chance. They’re platonic friends, but she has loved him from afar for a very long time. And then through a tragic circumstance, fate brings them together. Destiny discovers Chance has a secret kink: he likes to spank. But Destiny is hiding a far greater secret, and if Chance finds out, it could be the end of everything.
