Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. I’m excerpting from Breeder, a dark erotic sci-fi romance. Alpha Commander Dak has gone to a Breeder Containment Facility and purchased a female (Omra). After Dak leaves the facility, Sival, the BCF director returns to Omra’s cell.

His countenance darkened with choler. “I gave you one simple command–stay out of sight.”

“I tried.” She’d attempted to suppress the sneeze, but it had escaped anyway. She’d even bitten Alpha to convince him she was feral so he would reject her.

He swung his fist and hit her across the face. She fell to the ground, and her head slammed against the floor.

“I won’t allow you to spoil my plans. I’ll find another breeder to satisfy the Commander.”

Breeder blurb

She was only meant to be the Alpha Commander’s slave…but she became his everything.

High Commander Dak, a ruling Alpha of planet Parseon, purchases Omra strictly as a breeder slave. He intends to impregnate her, produce a son, and hand her off to his anointed beta partner, Corren. Any infractions of the rules by her will be harshly punished.

But as Dak and Omra discover a sexual bliss banned by law, Dak begins to question the traditions and ways of his people, causing him to jeopardize his command and endanger the life of the woman he has come to love.

Dak has enemies, men who will not hesitate to exploit his fondness for Omra, and use it to portray him as unfit to rule as Alpha. Can he expose the rampant cruelty and corruption in Parseon culture… or will the protocol he’s spent his life defending, be the weapon used to destroy them and their love?

  1. Ugh, reading this scene the first time made me so angry. It did again. You really know how to draw me into the story in just a few lines.

    • Cara Bristol says:

Breeder was a big departure and a turning point for me. It was the first book in which I really made things bad for my characters. The first book in which I killed a character.

  2. At first I thought Dak was the one slapping her around and I was appalled. The incident is still appalling, but at least it wasn’t the hero.

  3. Nasty! But, what are his plans and why doesn’t he want Dak to buy her?

  4. You did an excellent and thorough job of worldbuilding in this series, for sure. Best wishes on the re-release! This was a great snippet to show the desperateness of the situation for Omra.

  5. Oops, admin note now – when I click on the WeWriWa logo, I just get a bigger logo, not a link back to the blog hop linky site. Can you check that when you have a chance (maybe it’s just my browser) – thanks!

  6. Serious work in the land of fiction. What happens next is the question?

  7. I think that’s going to come back to bite him!

  8. Nancy Gideon says:

He’s in a heap of trouble now. I don’t think the commander is going to settle for anything less. Nice fierce scene, Cara.

  9. Jenna Jaxon says:

Very intense scene here. I’m wondering what Dak is going to do when he comes back to get Omra and she’s bruised. Somehow I don’t think he’s going to be very forgiving to Sival. Can’t wait to read this one!

  10. Brutal. I hope things won’t go according to Sival’s plan!

  11. Dang, that’s intense! Nice scene here!

  12. Huh. This really makes me wonder what those plans are. This creep is supposed to want to sell her, so why doesn’t he?

  13. Amy Braun says:

Ooohhhh, I would not want to be Sival when Dak finds out that he punched Omra…

  14. Diane Burton says:

When you’re one of the last to comment, all the best things you wanted to say were already said. 🙁 I thought it was Dak, too, until I reread the intro; I wonder what Dak will do when he sees her bruises; can’t wait to see how he retaliates. Great snippet.
