#RIP my favorite shirt, I’ll always love you…

You never get tired of your favorite clothing.

No matter how worn they become, you still love them (not like the other clothes in your closet). I had a sky blue silk dress that I loved.  I felt so good wearing it, I wore it until the color faded, and the dress started to look ragged.  Another favorite was a hot pink fringed  flapper style cocktail dress. Oh, I loved that dress. It shrank while hanging in the closet and no longer fit me.

I love my white shirt. It’s a simple 3/4 sleeve, low-hip length shirt. Basically a T-shirt, but I like the neckline, the sleeve length, the way it fits, the comfort. Being white, it goes with everything. It’s gotten a little dingy over the years (seven? eight?) and won’t bleach out, and somehow, I don’t know how, it got stained. I can’t wear it in public.

Recently I decided to purge my closet of all the clothes I don’t like, that don’t fit, that are stained. Alas! My favorite white shirt falls into the latter category.

Because of its condition, I can’t donate it to charity. I can’t bear to consign it to the rag bag to wipe up spills and fall further into disrepair.

I’m going to have to send it to the big closet in sky.

Goodbye, my favorite shirt. I’ll always love you…

Do you have a favorite article of clothing you can’t bear to part with?

  1. Haha. I have basically the same shirt in black and it’s threadbare but I haven’t gotten rid of it yet. It’s probably close to 10 years old and I wish I could find another (or several) just like it. Like you said, it’s basically a T-shirt, but I like the sleeve length and the neckline and the fit of the shirt.

Maybe if we’re both on the lookout for the same shirt, one of us will find it. 😉

I recently did a big purge of my wardrobe of clothes I haven’t worn in a long time and clothes that no longer fit me too. Amazing how they just shrink hanging in the closet!! And of course, we are going through and clearing out what’s been in storage for the last 9 years and discovered 4 boxes of clothes!! :-O Most of that went to charity. They either no longer fit or were terribly outdated.
