#Sunday: From Breeder…how can you give what they will take…

Amazon ~ iBooks ~ Barnes & Noble ~ Kobo

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, a weekly excerpt blog hop. My selection is from my recently re-released dark sci-fi romance, Breeder. To recap: Alpha Dak,a planetary commander, has gone to a Breeder Containment Facility and purchased Omra, a female slave. Unbeknownst to Dak, the BCF director had plans for her. Dak did notice the deplorable living conditions and how poorly the women in facility were treated. After Dak leaves, the director beats Omra and is on the verge of raping her when Dak’s guards drag him away.

In this scene, Omra’s cellmate Anika (who has been cavorting with a guard) returns with some news…

“Seeing how he beat you makes my news even more satisfying,” Anika said. “The director has been demoted, and he is to be flogged in the quad an hour before sundown.”

“Are you sure? How do you know?”

“I know.” Anika seduced BCF workers in exchange for privileges, food, and information.

Omra didn’t judge, she just didn’t understand why it seemed to work. “How can you give what they will take anyway?” She voiced her thoughts.

“The ones who will demand their pleasure you cannot deal with, but others are different.”

“I haven’t encountered any of those,” Omra replied but wondered if Alpha was different.

Breeder blurb

She was only meant to be the Alpha Commander’s slave…but she became his everything.

High Commander Dak, a ruling Alpha of planet Parseon, purchases Omra strictly as a breeder slave. He intends to impregnate her, produce a son, and hand her off to his anointed beta partner, Corren. Any infractions of the rules by her will be harshly punished.

But as Dak and Omra discover a sexual bliss banned by law, Dak begins to question the traditions and ways of his people, causing him to jeopardize his command and endanger the life of the woman he has come to love.

Dak has enemies, men who will not hesitate to exploit his fondness for Omra, and use it to portray him as unfit to rule as Alpha. Can he expose the rampant cruelty and corruption in Parseon culture… or will the protocol he’s spent his life defending, be the weapon used to destroy them and their love?

Terran (Breeder 2) is available for preorder now. Want to see the cover/blurb? Click here.

  1. There’s something in this premise that reminds me of The Handmaiden’s Tale.

  2. I hope he is different. She seems to have little hope left.

  3. That IS satisfying news. I’m sure she’s lucky to have a friend who can gather important info like that. I bet that’ll come in handy more than once

  4. Diane Burton says:

Some people will do anything to survive. Anika has figured out a way. Good think Omra can get the info without resorting to Anika’s tactics.

  5. Jenna Jaxon says:

After this excerpt, I had to get this. I’ve been wanting to read it, ever since I read Terran. There’s so many questions I have about this world and these women, I need to find out! I am glad the director is getting his comeuppance. They should let her watch the flogging. Great snippet!

  6. Such a satisfying moment in this wonderful story!

  7. Satisfying is the best word for this snippet. He got his.

    • Cara Bristol says:

You have no idea! The world is harsh for women in particular, but the men have a hard time, too. Sival was paid back tenfold for what he did to Omra.

  8. An interesting snippet, which illustrates some of the complexities you built into this world and the series. Really enjoyed reading the books when they first came out!

  9. Yay that there’s going to be at least a little justice. Very satisfying!

  10. Amy Braun says:

Hopefully the Alpha won’t be a jerk! 😉

  11. She’s had a rough life, for sure. But I bet it’s about to get a little better!

  12. I’m hoping he is different. Interesting snippet that sets the tone for your world.
