To recap last week’s Weekend Writing Warrior’s excerpt, Dale catches Illumina on the shop floor late at night when she should be sleeping. Seemingly, she was up to no good (but he doesn’t know that). I’ve been focusing on the intrigue, but I’m going to shift now and heat things up a bit. In this week’s snippet, Dale asks Illumina to take walk with him…

“So why couldn’t you sleep?” he asked.

“Why couldn’t you?” she countered.

“I was thinking…about you.”

“Me?” Her voice came out as a squeak. She cleared her throat. “What about me?”

“That’s the question. What about you, Illumina?” Her name in his rough voice sounded liked a caress.

Book Description

Sometimes the biggest risk is to one’s heart….

An ex-Cyber Operations field agent, Dale Homme has kissed danger and betrayal more times than he cares to count. Now he runs a clandestine factory beneath the surface of the moon Deceptio, where confidentiality and security matter more than anything. When a beautiful young woman arrives seeking a job, Dale knows within minutes she’s lying. Everything about her is false: her past, the people she claims to know, her reason for being on Deceptio. Illumina Smith? Even her name is an alias.

Logic says send her packing. His gut says she’s in trouble. She needs him. So he’ll do anything to keep her safe….even if it means keeping her captive.

Captured by the Cyborg is third in the Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance series but is written to be read as a stand-alone novella.

  1. What about her, indeed? I hope you’ll be telling us soon.

  2. T. M. Hunter says:

Always tricky with dialogue and a sentence cap…hope she finds a way to get out of her current predicament without major issues.

  3. So much intrigue still in this snippet, along with the sexual tension! Love it! Going to have to finish the book I’m reading quickly so I can delve into this one and find out what’s going on. 🙂

  4. Great dialogue! Cue sexy music!

  5. Hmm, why do I get the feeling he wasn’t thinking about her employment history? Or maybe he was, and got distracted. 🙂

  6. Here comes the hot part, folks. My mommy said don’t read but I will-with flashlight under the covers.

  7. Peter Vialls says:

Something tells me she isn’t getting out of there any time soon. The question is whether she would want to…

  8. Oh yes, one of those conversations fraught with tension and….other things! Great snippet!

  9. She was not expecting that answer to his question, I see. But she successfully deflected his question… for now.

  10. Ha! I love her “squeak” when she answers, “Me?” and my favorite dialogue is when characters are being evasive and answering questions with other questions. Nice exchange!

  11. Jess Schira says:

Wow, that last paragraph is intriquing!

  12. So Dale has now revealed his attraction for Illumina, even though he suspects her of spying. Very interested to see how she responds.

  13. Of course he could have been mulling over his suspicions about her.

  14. Tina Christopher says:

    Ohhhhh! You’re in trouble, girl!;)
    Another fab snippet!

  15. A rather delicious moment…standing at a precipice. 🙂 Nicely done, Cara!
