What I love about Regency romance is the sublimated sexuality underneath the formality and the restraint. I’m reading a fun one with a perky heroine right now. In Lord Midnight by Donna Cummings, Marissa’s father is forcing her to marry Lord Westbrook, a man twice her age. Enroute to Lord Westbrook’s estate, her carriage is besieged by a masked highwayman. Rather than fearing him, she hopes he will kidnap her to save her from the upcoming nuptials. But he doesn’t…although he does continue to pay her visit at the estate from time to time…
“You are a different sort of highwayman,” she marveled, arranging the skirts of her riding habit.
“Alas, ’tis why I cannot seem to make a go of the profession.”
Her eyes twinkled. “You have chosen another then?”
“I have a certain propensity for stealing kisses.”
Favorite Lines is an intermittent series in which I quote snippets from books I’m reading that caught my fancy. For more of my fave, click on on the tag “favorite lines.”
Sounds like a great read. I love Regency romance stories.
It is. So far it’s a “sweet” romance, but I like the characters and the story.
Cara, I just saw this post — thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the story. I hope you’ll enjoy the steamier sections later in the book. 🙂
